Verona Road is an important commuter corridor for Madison area businesses that links key economic centers from Iowa to Northeastern Wisconsin. After seven years, construction is finally coming to an end. The smoother, wider, and safer roadway now has improved intersections and fewer stops, cutting drive times for commuters, regional trucking, and visitors from around the state of Wisconsin and beyond.
In order to decrease drive times, two at-grade crossings were removed, one at Williamsburg Way and one at County Highway PD (CTH PD). Verona Road was lowered to go underneath Williamsburg Way and raised to span CTH PD. Other improvements to the corridor included widening the Beltline from Whitney Way to Verona Road, construction of a specialized single-point urban interchange (SPUI), a jug-handle interchange with a roundabout directly under Verona Road, two new pedestrian bridges, a pedestrian tunnel, and the reconstruction of the Seminole Highway Bridge.
For many local businesses, 7 years of construction has taken great patience, but the improved roadway will be a driver of economic development. New businesses, including Luna’s Groceries, Yahara Bay Distillery, Pet Supplies Plus, Dwellings, Goldfish Swim School, Orange Shoe Fitness, and Staybridge Suites, have started popping up within the project corridor.
