In April 2024, the Village of Plainfield discovered a hole in the 127th Street Bridge over the DuPage River, prompting an urgent closure and a rapid response to minimize community disruption and costs. Our team assisted in developing a Bridge Condition Report, estimating repairs at $1.59 million. The project was ultimately awarded $1.35 million, allowing the Village to incorporate additional value-added improvements.

The main goals while repairing the bridge were to:

  • Minimize disruption to the community
  • Minimize construction costs while still adding long-term value

By prioritizing efficiency and flexibility, construction was completed in just 7 months. The Village also focused on minimizing environmental impacts by keeping the improvements above the floodplain, removing built-up debris around the bridge piers, and using a protective shield over the river during construction. Effective community engagement and proactive project management ensured a smooth process, making this project a model for emergency infrastructure repair.

This project also won the 2025 APWA IL Southwest Branch Project of the Year for Emergency Construction and Repair!
